Houses

GORALNICK takes his cues from the rich details of the area in which the home is to be built. Having built houses from the seaside in Maine and Martha’s Vineyard to the vineyards of France, his artistry has been informed by the vast array of detail from the local architecture and the terrain of the site. GORALNICK uses these inspirations to create a signature style and house. Whether it is reinterpreting the style of a column or creating an innovative floorplan, each design gives a nod to history with a new vision both artistically and functionally.

GORALNICK has built new homes and designed top-to-bottom renovations of existing homes. For a beach house in Martha’s Vineyard, he spent a good deal of time with the client exploring the island and looking at favorite details of historic homes. Many of these details were incorporated and reinterpreted in the final design along with the inventive use of time honored building materials. For the siting of the house GORALNICK rented a cherry picker to choose the best site with the most spectacular views of the ocean.

At La Badoque, a country house in the south of France, GORALNICK studied the vineyards and lived with the family to understand the way the derelict shell could best serve as a modern functioning house and headquarters. The solution involved piercing all three floors with one staircase that served as a circulation spine for all of the rooms in the house.

Many renovations start with modest, contemporary homes that are transformed into dream houses by cleverly weaving new elements from a style appropriate to the site and to the client’s vision. The end result is a house that seems to have been there for decades.
